"Best Friend" is an autobiographic contemporary dance performance.
Performance is inspired by the personal diary of choreographer. Ģirts started to write the diary when they were 14 years old because of the unnerving urge to confess that they are in love with their classmate - straight boy.
“Best Friend” is a love letter not only to the author himself, but also to friends who are performing it. Performance explores self-acceptence, sexuality, addiction, relationship and other topics relevant in the process of growing up and coming out of the closet as gay person in post-Soviet state.
''Best Friend'' premiered on June 2nd 2021 at Latvian Academy of Culture in Riga. Ģirts was awarded a Bachelor of Arts.
