Ceremony “You Are My Sister” is my MA degree project and a continuation of the
performance “Shame. Initiation,” that premiered on June 17, 2023.
Ceremony is an invitation for audience to support me and spend time in my “room”, while I set my spirit free.
I do that by dancing, lip-syncing favourite songs, looking into the sky and the mirror, talking with my mother and the audience, lighting candles and blowing them out.

Among everything else ceremony is a tribute to the women who have been with me since my very first breath – my mother Gunta, my godmother Agita, my aunt Mārīte, and my greatgrandmother Alvīne.

I give it to the audience and ask them to zoom in the body, space and time, as they direct the live recording on the screen in the background. Perhaps “You Are My Sister” is a movie set for Ģirts biopic.

is at the heart of my choreographic and performative practice.
