The performative reading "Sister, Now I Am a Bird" is an event I created in collaboration with the EX LIBRIS bookstore and the New Theatre Institute of Latvia. During the performance, I share texts from my publication of notes on compassion "Sister, I am a bird now". I made the publication as part of final project for a MA degree in Choreography at Stockholm University of the Arts.
Notes on compassion encompass diary entries, rehearsal notes, and daily reflections spanning from September 2024 to March 2026 - the time of my MA studies. Resembling an incantation, a ritual, or a prayer, the reading invites the audience to gather, listen, and do good. Alongside the people and text, tracks from the Antony and the Johnsons album *I Am A Bird Now* (2004) shape the atmosphere in the room.
LipSync* interacts with reading. Lyrics interact with written text.
Given the desire for intimacy, the reading accommodates approximately thirty people.
The event lasts around one hour.
It took place on September 11, 2026 in the bookshop EX LIBRIS as part of HOMO NOVUS Festival centre programme.
